At Island Health we try to offer a variety of appointments to meet the needs our local community. These include face to face, telephone and video. Appointments can be booked via online consultation or via the telephone.
There are some appointments such as smears that can also be booked via the NHS app
If you have a life-threatening emergency such as chest pain breathing difficulty or sudden onset weakness, you should call 999 immediately.
Our New Online consultation service is the easiest way to book an appointment, arrange a follow up, order your medication, request a sick note or make an enquiry. This easy to use service is available everyday from 8am and will be closed once we have reached capacity.
Access our online consultation service hereThe service involves answering a few short questions, to understand the nature of your medical concern. These requests are then triaged by a clinician to ensure that appointments are offered in a safe and timely manner. You may then be offered a telephone appointment or invited for a face to face appointment.
For more information please see herePlease note we may need to temporarily suspend this service at short notice due staffing issues or excess demand. This is to ensure that patient safety, telephone lines will however remain open. This service should not be used in an acute emergency, and instead patients are encouraged to call 999 or 111.
The practice phone number is 020 7363 1111 and the telephone lines are open from 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. For non-urgent queries and test results please call between 10:00 to 14:00pm to avoid our busiest times.
The phone lines can be very busy during peak times, please avoid these times if you can or use the online consultation tool.
Because we have such a large and diverse team at Island Health, our highly skilled patient navigators will ask you to briefly state why you would like an appointment. This is purely so that we can book you in with the correct clinician/service to avoid you having a wasted trip! If you would rather not give the team any details, then please do not be afraid to say so.
Please note WE WILL NOTE TAKE ANY PRESCRIPTION REQUESTS OVER THE PHONE. This is to avoid any clinical errors. If you have got a medication query please discuss this with your pharmacist or speak to our in house pharmacist.
There are times when the practice has reached capacity that you will be directed to 111. This is to ensure that all medical problems are dealt with safely without any clinical delay.
Please note all our incoming and outgoing calls are recorded for training or monitoring purposes.
Appointments with doctors and nurses at Island Health are only for our registered patients.
All GP appointments are ten minutes long and booked in advance. If you have a routine telephone appointment you will be advised whether it is a morning (8.30-12.30) or afternoon (2-5.30) appointment. Clinicians will not be able to guarantee that they will call you at a specific time. Please also note that sometimes clinic's will overrun and clinicians may need to call you later than your expected time. Clinicians will always try calling twice, so please do stay by your phone.
We do not offer a walk-in service
When the practice is closed, patients are advised to contact the NHS 111 service by going on the website online 111 or telephoning 111 for all non-life-threatening cases. The 111 operative will advise you accordingly or connect you to the GP out of hours service.
In the event of an emergency, dial 999 and ask for the ambulance service.
Chest pain and shortness of breath are classed as emergencies.
At present we are not offering travel immunisations.
We offer home visits to our housebound or frail patients. We request that you call the surgery before 10.00 am if you wish to arrange a Home Visit. Our on call duty doctor will then triage this and if required, arrange a visit later in the day. Please note, that in order to provide an efficient and safe service, Home Visits are reserved for those who genuinely need them.
The practice offers a dedicated ‘Home Health Service’. There is an allocated care coordinator and health care assistant who support the health and wellbeing needs of housebound and frail patients. This team offer home visits for chronic disease review, blood tests and deliver relevant immunisations. If you think you or a loved one would benefit from this service, please contact a patient navigator.
If you are unable to attend an appointment which you have booked then please cancel it at the earliest opportunity so that the appointment can be offered to someone else.
Persistent failure to attend for appointments which you have booked and not cancelled will lead us to consider whether we can continue to look after you at Island Health.
In 2022, 1 in 20 appointments were missed resulting in 3,179 wasted appointments! This equalled 22 hours of wasted practitioner time a week.
